Send me your photos, too, please!! mrs.opfel@gmail.com!! PS: you can ignore my testimony at the end but I wanted to give Katy the opportunity to hear it!

Happy Holidays!!!!!!!! And thanks Again!!!

My Testimony for Katy!!
Growing up in the Catholic Church, religion was not foreign to me. I attended mass weekly and participated in church events. I remember it like it was yesterday and as such I remember how much I wondered about the church. So many questions filled my tiny little head but when asked, no answers could be found. It was a funny thing, I knew I belonged to a certain religion but I had so little faith. I honestly believe now it is because I knew that the Catholic Church was not right for me in my life. I longed to know God and understand him but because of my bitterness towards the Catholic Church my heart was hardened and my faith grew weaker. It was at this point in time that I found myself making careless and thoughtless decisions. I felt no consequence(s) for my actions. I was numb. And I really feel like I emotionally suffered as a result of my behaviors. I was unhappy, angry, and ultimately, I felt really alone all of the time. And that truly is one of the worst feelings in the world. Life continued to spiral out of control until I met Daniel. And even then I probably wasn’t a very good example. (I’m sorry, Daniel). A through Daniel and his loving family I was introduced to the church… but because my heart was so hard and my faith so meek I was not very interested in the idea of religion in my life. However, I found myself going through the motions to please those around me. This continued on for many months after countless visits from missionaries, attending sacrament, and participating in prayer. Nothing clicked but something had definitely changed. Although my heart stayed hard, I found a desire deep within me to know more about this church. I didn’t care if it was right or wrong, I just wanted to hear and know more about it. I would go to fast and testimony meetings and long to know what you all have known for so long. When no clear answers came, I once again felt let down. It was at this time we asked the missionaries to please stop visiting us at home. However, instead of feeling relief from the lack of bombardment, I felt like I had maybe made a mistake. You all have heard my glass story so I won’t tell it again but this night was a turning point for me and my relationship with Heavenly Father. And in the days to come I felt the spirit in my life so strongly. Soon after the glass event I was feeling pretty vulnerable and low. I just remember praying- begging and maybe even venting at Heavenly Father asking if I was alone and if he knew how I was feeling. And as soon as my prayer ended my phone rang and it was the missionaries wanting to reschedule visits. It was like he was telling me I wasn’t alone and showing me the way to him. The spirit filled my heart. I remember having days where I just felt the urge to pray or read scriptures- and feeling deep within my bones that someone was there beside me guiding me to the church. I feel so blessed to have the church in my life. And I am eternally grateful for Daniel, his family, the countless elders, the scriptures, and modern day prophets in my life. Through your testimonies, through sacrament, through self-revelation, and through Heavenly Father’s love for me I know this church is true. Someone once told me that it was okay if I didn’t believe in God because he believes in me. And I feel like that is so true. Heavenly Father knew what I needed to experience in my life to know (without a doubt) that this church is true. And I will forever be grateful for his faith in me. I will forever be grateful for this church. I love all of you unconditionally and I am so thankful for you in my life. And I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

so much news!

I am very honored and pleased to announce the birth of my very first nephew, (on my side that is), Jaxon Alexander Collins. To make a long horrible story short- my sister was told on Thursday that she was going to deliver probably within the next 24 hours! She was 3cm going on four so being the very overly excited aunt I am I drove down that same day! (I was not missing this)!! So Thursday comes and goes with no baby, and Friday, and Saturday, and Sunday... STILL NO BABY! Needless to say I wasn't prepared to stay any longer so on Monday morning I drove back up to Flagstaff. The funny thing about this is that when I got home I called my sister to tell her I made it home okay in the snow and ask her how she was feeling... She said nothing had changed. I joked with her "That's okay, I haven't walked in my front door yet so I am sure you'll go into labor any minute now..." Sure as heck 8pm rolls around and her water breaks! AHHH! I was so frustrated!! I knew it was going to happen that way! So Danny and I load the dogs into his piece of crap car to drive down to Phoenix. Okay, so I probably shouldn't call his car that but really it is. His heater core is broken so we had to drive (IN A BLIZZARD) with the windows rolled down, no heater, and with paper towels to wipe the windshield the entire drive. Misery! We ended up getting to Casa Grande at 1:30 in the morning. After 2 hours of shut eye in the front seat of the car we receive a phone call that my sister is in active labor. I rush in just in time to say good luck before she starts pushing!! At 6:26 am little baby Jaxon graced us with his presence weighing in at 6 pounds 10 ounces and 20 inches!! He is amazing! I love him so much! He is so tiny and perfect and makes me want babies really, really, REALLY badly!! And can I just say that the number 6 was predominant during this birth? Scary. Lindsay (my sister) was in room 6, he was born at 6:26, on the 16th, weighing 6lbs 10 ounces... weird, weird, weird!! Oh well, he is too precious and wonderful to be anti anything!! Here are some pictures!! Can't wait for you to meet him!!

Congratulations Lindsay and Welcome Jaxon!!!

On to the next!! Danny and I are trying to be conservative this year with gifts. On Valentines day this past year he made me a coupon book that I LOVED! So when I asked him what he wanted for Christmas this year you can bet he asked for one in return!! I have to admit, I had SO much fun putting this together! Thank you Ginger and Glitz for the amazing scrapbooking materials that made it all possible!! Here are so pictures of the final project (unbound)...

Don't just love it? Speaking of love, I LOVE Danny!! We have been in the midst of a horrible snow storm! It has been non-stop snow since Monday!! Whereas ya'll might think this is awesome it most certainly is not!! Daniel, being the loving husband he is, has been doing most of the shoveling because I hurt my back!! What a nice guy, huh? I finally got him to stop for a picture and this is what he gave me... dork!

And lastly, I simply cannot wait for my baptism this weekend!! Mostly in part because I get to see all you guys and I miss you so much! Today the Elders came by to settle some details about talks, prayers, and hymns! I felt like I was planning a wedding all over again! Hahah!! Thank you to Becky and Ben for volunteering to do the talks! I appreciate it very much!! I am so excited for this special day and to share it with all of you! Katy, you will be sincerely missed! Well, other than all of that my life is truckin' along!! Can't wait to see you Saturday... please dress warm and take your time coming up!! The roads have just been crazy!! Love ya'll and I'll see you real soon!!!!!

isaac daniel opfel.

I just wanted to post a blog about Daniel. He is the best thing to EVER have happened to me. There is not a day that goes by that I don't feel blessed to have him as my husband. Here is our story :o) Daniel and I were lab partners in micro class. Actually, we orignally had separate lab classes but once I saw him in lecture I made up an excuse so I could switch classes to be next to him. Just so happened the seat next to him was empty. Pretty soon we were sitting next to each other in lecture, too! We probably should have been paying attention but instead we spent the time playing hangman. To this day I have all of our hangman games. I remember coming home and telling my sisters that I was crushing on this boy in my micro class. After hearing a little bit about him they said no way. But for some reason I couldn't resist!! This is the first photo of us together EVER at the mall during a class break:

Pretty soon we were inseparable- that summer we went to Texas to visit Momma O! It was so much fun. Her house floored me! It was beautiful!! Daniel and I had such a great time! We went to the aquarium, the beach, 6 flags, the riverwalk, and visited Papa. He was SO funny!! Telling Daniel he better "marry the hell" out of me!! Who knew he actual would? (I suppose I secretly always hoped)!! Here are some pictures from our trip...

In November I found out that I had gotten into nursing school!! We were SO excited but not so much to leave! Luckily we had the opportunity to celebrate thanksgiving before we left for good! That year I was definitely thankful for Danny!! How could you not love that face?

Soon after it was my 21st birthday!! Daniel got me an amazing camera that I still use to this very day! I love it (and him)!! Here we are out celebrating!!

Also, Danny took me on a sunset horseback ride to dinner at a steak house!! It was amazing. I was so surprised and so happy!! What a creative idea! He is thoughtful and loving...

It wouldn't be December without riding on the polar express!! Oh man it was VERY overwhelming! All those kids ringing those horrible bells!! AND I got train sick! Who knew that you even could get train sick?... Anyway, it doesn't matter because I got Daniel to wear flannel pj's in public. He must love me?

... and of course we had to visit temple lights. They were breathtaking!

Then it was off to Flagstaff!! So many wonderful memories here!! We got our pup Rampage, Daniel proposed, we made great new friends... we love Flagstaff!!

And here we are almost two years later (in Feb) and I couldn't be happier. I feel like Heavenly Father brought me and Daniel together for a reason. I can't wait for the day that I am worthy enough to be sealed to him for all eternity in the temple. He is my forever soul mate. Some people aren't as lucky as we are to be this in love everyday. I hope we ALWAYS feel so strongly for one another. I can't imagine a life without Danny.

You may be asking yourself why I wrote this... I want the entire world to know that this kind of love is real. And I never want Daniel to forget how truly appreciated he is. I hope our marriage stays blessed throughout the years and that our children will know the kind of love we have...
Hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I did remembering it all. I miss and love you guys and I can't wait to see you again for my baptism!! Take care!!

Gobble Gobble!

Hey Guys!! Hope your thanksgiving was wonderful! Wish we could have seen all of ya'll but it was still great getting to visit with momma o, Benjamin, and Ned! Our thanksgiving actually went really well. Okay, so that isn't all true- turns out the inside of my turkey was still frozen that morning --doesn't my turkey look like it is sitting in a hot tub or something? I just had to draw a face with BBQ sauce!! Hahah! The turkey was just the beginning, too! I also didn't get enough stuffing... or butter! I imagine it was pretty obvious that I was a novice at the whole holiday meal thing. My little sister, Dad, and momma all helped (some more than others)! Ha!

Note the pots and pans :o)

Regardless we had a really good time playing Wii (I still rock) and hiking with the dogs!! Surprisingly, the turkey even turned out wonderfully! Very exciting !! As you all have probably seen we also tried taking a holiday photo in some ugly sweaters!! It was the hardest thing ever trying to get the dogs to keep still- we were trying to make stupid faces but we could never coordinate efforts. Mission Holiday Photo= Disaster! Oh well, more entertaining than last years, eh? Here is a montage to our efforts:

Oh man, Hassle!! Thanks Lindsay for taking that photo for us!! And staying on topic my sister is about to bust!! I know you can't tell in this photo but she really is just weeks away and I am SO excited for her. Maybe we should jump on the bandwagon? Humm, we'll see. Anyway here is Lindsay and Drew aka Mom & Dad!

On another note: the semester is about to end and I couldn't be more excited! All and all this semester was a whole heck of a lot better than semesters prior! Today is actually my last day of clinicals and I am in the OR watching surgeries. Usually this isn't my forte but Daniel is working in recovery tonight so we'll be together! Kind of cool, eh?! Here is a photo of my clinical group! No, this isn't my entire class but these are the students I work with at the hospital!

And Lastly, I just wanted to say thank you to all of you guys for the wonderful set of scriptures that I absolutely- truly- without a doubt LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!! I appreciate you guys thinking of me on my birthday! It means more than you know!! Can't wait to see you guys again! Hopefully real soon, okay!?!?! Have a good Thursday, Ya'll!
