Today Danny and I were at church and because last Sunday there was a conference today was the fast and testimony meeting. I don't know why but I decided to go up and tell this story that happened to me earlier this week that gave me hope that the church is real. Here is the story I told today in church.
Earlier this week I was angry with Daniel because we rarely get to spend time together anymore and when he comes home from work I lose him to world of war craft. Usually he is really good at waiting til I go to bed but this night he had said he would go to bed with me. However, right as we are walking to the bedroom he plops down at the computer. Me= Not happy. This same day but hours earlier I had accidentally broken a frame from my wall art (previously shown) after I slammed our bedroom door too hard. Needless to say there was glass everywhere and I had to pick up- ugh. So that evening in my anger I said I hoped he stepped on a piece of glass. I know it was wrong. I didn't even mean it when I said it but its like my favorite quote goes: Speak Angry and You'll Make the Best Speech You'll Ever Regret." So of course afterwards I felt horrible. I could feel my blood boiling (for no real reason mind you) so I went to bed to calm down. For some reason while I laid in bed I had the urge to pray. Well... not really pray but talk to God. I asked for patience and to calm me down and I apologized for what I had said. Once I had calmed down enough I got back out of bed to apologize to Daniel who apparently didn't even hear me in the first place. Once we were better I went to go get back into bed and laid on a piece of glass. First of all I know I cleaned up the glass thoroughly but what a perfect thing to remind me that I am not alone. It was like God was saying "wake up, Laura. There are far bigger and greater things than being angry at this." For the first time I realized something bigger actually could be out there. It was amazing. So I am not sure what this means for me but I cannot wait to find out what is next.
I ended this with "I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen" because that is how Daniel told me you end a testimony. I couldn't remember it so I wrote it on the back of a gas receipt that I took up there with me. I don't know why I decided to share it- I obviously hadn't planned to share it but it felt like the right thing to do. I just wanted to let people know (maybe more investigators?) that something can happen. And even though it may be insignificant to the people I tell or maybe even Daniel it meant something big to me. I feel like this is the push I needed to let my guard down and let the gospel into my life. It was because of this incident that I decided to go to church today. SO I guess it was my somewhat testimony that I believe that the church could very much be true and Joseph Smith really could be a prophet and maybe... just maybe he is looking out for me and calling me to join him :o) Hope you guys all have a wonderful sabbath!

Laura-
I just love you! Today Glen and I had to give a talk in church and I was so scared! After i sat down i felt like ten pounds was lifted off my shoulders! I am so proud of you for getting up and sharing that story and yes your testimony! I need to be more courageous like you, and bear mine next fast and testimony meeting. Reading your post today brought the biggest smile to my face! If you ever have questions about the church, you know you can always ask me!
thanks for sharing that with us laura. it is hard to walk all that way and then be able to get the words out . . . i always get emotional which makes it difficult to be coherent! good for you! you know that when you bear your testimony Heavenly Father fogives your mistakes . . . something to think on. so, if we can bear our testimonies each month - and try to live the best we know how - then we're good to go! right? hugs from other mom p.s. so, daniel went up also?
your "glass" story reminded me of once when bill and i were in college - no kids yet - i was SO angry at him i simply couldn't think of what i should do. i was standing in the hallway thinking if was going to explode w/anger. . . strangely, the tv was on some random funny show and i turned to look at it . . . and it actually caught my attention. i thought to myself - what was all that anger about anyway! i hate to be angry . . . it's so . . . uncomfortable!!!
by the way, laura, praying to Heavenly Father . . . is just talking. Joseph Smith once said that we should talk to Heavenly Father just like we talk to our neighbor when we are asking borrow his plow . . . (something like that). He is real - and it does feel good to know that he knows us by name and cares about each one of us. yes, it feels great to know that.
wow laura you are beautiful inside and out. I love you for sharing your testimony with us. I have to say that a couple years ago I was so angry at preston that i was going to explode, and he didn't even know I was mad...which is even worse. well I went upstairs and got on my knees and prayed(i have recently figured out that praying on my knees works so much better....it humbles me a bit more and makes my prayers more real...and I don't fall asleep on my knees) well I was praying like fast and furious...please change this about preston, and fix that, and help him this, blah blah blah....then the words came to my mind (that is the spirit speaking to me...gently) the spirit said Be patient with him....he is the one you begged and pleaded with me to bring back to you...the one you said you couldn't live without...be patient with him. Instantly all the anger faded away...it was like I heard a recording of my own prayers...when preston and I broke up for a while in high school...and I prayed morning, noon, and night for Heavenly Father to bring us back together...because I knew he was the one for me. I love that I can tell Heavenly Father anything, and everything, all my problems, all my imperfections, and I can vent, and I feel the comfort and love that saying my prayers brings me. What an amazing girly you are...I truly believe that you will find so much strength and comfort in the gospel as I do. Everything else in this world is temporary, the $$, the material things, families are forever though. I love you Laura, and I love your beautiful testimony. U ROCK!!! Hugs from AK
Dude what's up with mom hogging the comments...just kidding. This was very sweet to read. Thanks for sharing. Definitely brings it home what's really important. Very very Brave of you to get up and bear your testimony DANG I wish I could have been there. You brought tears to my eyes with your testimony in your blog so I bet you would have turned me into a bawl baby in person ;) Hugs!
Good job getting up there! That can be scary. I bet you did a great job. Glad you're feeling good and finding answers!
Laura,
Heavenly Father has big plans for you and Danny (as you call him). I am excited to know you are discovering those plans. You never met my dad in this life. He was a lot like daniel. I believe my dad had a hand in bringing you into daniel's life. Daniel needs to be part of the church and so do you. It is through the principles and ordinances of the church that heavenly father teaches us who we really are and what he sent us to earth to become. Love you guys.
